Articles Submission

Article SubmitterIn one of my previous posts I talked about directories submission as a way to get one way links to your website. Today I would like to show you another great way to get a one way link to your website: Articles Submission.

While article submission isn’t anything shockingly new to the world of SEO, many people STILL don’t do it… and for good reason. It takes so incredibly long to do manually.

Most of the web marketers using articles submission as a killer tool to get one way links and to get traffic to their websites. Most of them are using only few of the major article directories to submit their articles to. Usually they manually copying and pasting the information into the required textboxes on each submission site. That could take a lot of time !

As I like to say, for every problem there is a solution :) .
Take a look at this free program created by Brad Callen and Bryxen Software, Inc. that allows you to automatically submit your articles to hundreds of article directories with a few mouse clicks. Basically all you have to do is to input your article criteria into the software, ONCE! Then, the program would automatically fill in all of the required data at each of the submission websites. Pretty incredible if you ask me.

The only part I didn’t understand was why the program is free… but I can’t argue with that I suppose.

The software currently contains around 700 article directories, all free to submit your articles to. It is the most straightforward program that we’ve come across, in that all you need to do is:

1. Input your article details (i.e. title, article body, bio, etc.) into the software

2. Click on the directory you want to submit to

And then the program will automatically fill in your article details. Then, you simply click the submit button and your article is instantly submitted to the directory. Then, you can move to the next directory, go through the list, and by the time you’re finished you’ll have roughly 700 one way links pointing to your website.

I can’t think of an easier way to get links. Of course, if you’re going to get links this quickly, it’s important to submit different variations of your articles, to make things look more natural to the search engines.

You can do this very easily via Article Submitter when you create your project in the beginning.

The software is constantly being updated and their is an incredible community of users established that all work together to make the software better and better, so you know you’re getting great value for the money.

Check Backlinks

I am using SEO Elite to check the back links for every single website that I own. Well… I own more the one website, actually I own many websites. I am using SEO Elite for this task. With one click I can check who is linking to my website, what anchor text they are using and what its IP address.

In my last post I wrote about the “nofollow” attribute. If your website back link contain the “nofollow” attribute then this link weight is not worth much. One of the coolest features that SEO Elite report provide is the ability to see for every back link if it has a “nofollow” link. Take a look at the screen shot below. Its a report for one of my website. You can see that its has lots of back links and you can see that some of them (unfortunately :) ) has the “nofollow” attribute. More then that, using this report I can get information whether this link is still valid.

Check Backlinks

rel nofollow

In my previews post I introduced a new software that automated part of the directory submissions process. The idea is simple: submit your website to many directories  and get one way links for free.

On that matter allow me to bring to your attention something very important. Some of the directories owners are using the “nofollow” attributes within the <a> tag (The <a> tag defines an anchor.). If your website appear in such a directory, the link to your website get no credit. In another word, there is no point to submit your website to such kind of directories assuming that you would like to improve your website ranking.

How can you know if a directory owner is using the “nofollow” attribute. The simple way is by looking at the website source code. However, this could take some time and effort, especially if you are submitting your website to large number of directories.

I am using a nice Firefox extension that give the option to highlight nofollow links. This extension, developed by Craig Raw, is a must for those who are dealing with SEO. It has several others features beside the option to highlight nofollow links.

You can download it at: http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/

After you will install it take a look at the right bottom corner of your Firefox

Search Status

Right Click on the @ icon and mark the “Highlight the nofollow links” options.

Search Status

Now… every page that you will visit, all the nofollow links will be highlighted.

Links exchange tips

Although links exchange is not the best effective way to improve your ranking, its still has some effect on your website ranking. I am not going to try to estimate how effective it is. You will here lots of pros and cons about this method.

What I am going to do in this post is to give you some useful tips that can help you to take out the maximum of your exchange links work. Read those link exchange tips carefully. They will save lots of time and afford.

  1. The rule number one is: consider your back links as a source to get traffic. If you don’t see any point to get traffic from a specific website, there is no point to exchange links with it. The behind of this rule is very simple. The search engines (SE) are looking for logic in the overall links map. If your website topic is about SEO it will be a waste to get traffic from mobile phones website. Most likely the users will not find any interest. Not doing so will scream to the SE that there is something fake with this links and your website will not get a voted = no effect on your ranking. In some rare situation, meaning, you made lots of links exchange with irrelevant website, your ranking could be dropped drastically.
  2. Be very careful to whom you are link back. Not many are aware to the fact that your out links has a major effect on your ranking. Its not just harm you’re ranking but in some cases it can even improve it. Although I did not figure out yet how exactly an outgoing link can improve a website ranking, but I’ve been witness to a situation where we launched a new brand website that was index within few days after we add to it a link to GoDaddy website. At that point we did not have yet any back links, at least not that we were aware about. Link back to website that you believe that your visitors will find interest. Ask yourself why they came to visit in your website initially. Then figure our whether a specific website will give them benefit. I like to call it the “visitor test”. Some will tell that you are not suppose to link back to websites that are not in your niche. My experience proved that the “visitor test” can make your SEO effort much easier while keeping your website natural as possible.
  3. Check if the website that you are exchanging links with is been indexed by Google. In most cases of its not it’s probably because it’s a new website. In rare situations it means that the website was banned due to some violation. Since you can’t really tell at that point why the website in not indexed you can postpone your link exchange with it for a while. If it was not banned it will be indexed within 2-3 weeks. If you don’t see it indexed within 8-10 weeks then most likely it was banned. Be politely correct in this kind of cases. You don’t want to loose any good potential back links.
  4. Most of the people will look for high PR (page range) website to exchange link with. There is no doubt that a high PR website will give your website a good chance to get a high PR. However, there is no guarantee that a high PR website will give you more credit with your ranking. Don’t forget rule #1. A PR 1 website that has lots of traffic will give you more benefit: you will get quality traffic and most likely that as its traffic will increase, its PR will also improve. Don’t get underestimate PR 0 websites. Someday they will have PR other then 0. You will find that it’s much easier to exchange links with webmasters who own PR 0 website rather with those who own PR 6 website. PR 8 website webmasters will probably delete your link exchange email at the moment they will see it ;)
  5. To improve your chance to get a successful link exchange deal, list the other website on yours website then ask for a link exchange. Within your link exchange email include the URL where you placed the link on your website. Now it’s a time for some patience. You will find that most webmaster will not reply within 1-2 days. Some of them will react to your email up to 60 days. In any case do not remove their link from you website. If they will look for it and will not find it then you lost your chance for link exchange. Beside, remember that you put their link because you believe that it will bring benefit to your visitors. If you will remove it they will start to ask why…? And also the search engines crawlers. Again, keep your action natural as possible.

Many are looking for the right tips about links exchange. There are more factors that I will write about in another time. However, the links exchange tips that I mentioned above are the most basic and the most effective that really makes the difference. They are must above any other tips that you might find.
